South Walton County Conservation Trust A 55,000+ acre area including Destin, Florida, and area to its east in the Florida Panhandle includes a number of threatened and endangered species, wetlands types specific to only that part of Florida and a growing tourism and development industry. The Florida Legislature recognized these factors as did citizens of the area and monies ($800,000) were appropriated to study unique means to successfully integrate high value natural systems and human usage of the resources available in the area. The South Walton County Conservation Trust (SWCT), consisting of local citizens, university personnel, and conservation interests were appointed to select a consultant team and direct the efforts of the team to achieve the intent of the Trust and the legislature. Breedlove, Dennis & Associates, Inc. (BDA) services the team and the SWCT as a natural resource assessment and management capability and as the primary point through which data compilation, analysis and queries are made and from which products are disseminated to Trust, team, and other members of the process. Because of the associations to which BDA belongs and its involvement in local and national level activities, and because of the parties included on the Trust, it is hoped that the process will result in the goals being met in several different ways.
